Hello

This site’s been created in the hope that knowledge is power, and the
certainty that ignorance is its antithesis.   It’s mainly a compilation
of information and insight from various sources that I thought worth
passing along.

I’ll be tossing in my overvalued two cents, as well (denoted
by asterisks).   That said, I’d like to think I’m smart enough to know
what I don’t know, and that I’ll make that clear when necessary.

I’m happy to hear from folks.   Disagreement is welcome, but only if
it’s civil.  You can be as vociferous as you wish, but personal attacks
will simply be flushed as soon as they’re apparent.

Let’s do the mensch thing.

Make sense?   If so, you can leave a comment here, or reach me via email at unlikelysource@gmail.com, on Twitter at @aspiringmensch, or at my Facebook page at https://facebook.com/unlikelysource.

And a note on DEMOCRACY NOW! posts:

I may be stating the obvious, but it’s a good idea to check the DN!
Headlines every weekday.

There’s a link to them at the top right of each segment I post, or of
course you can go directly to the program site at https://www.democracynow.org on those days when nothing is posted.

And in addition to what’s here, I occasionally receive responses to my comments on various sites, which I may reply to.

If you’re interested in those responses, just click on the page link and search on “Doug Latimer” in the comments section to read them, or check my Twitter account.

Thanks for visiting.   I hope you’ll find it worth your while.

ADDED 10/27/11 —  THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES page, where I park aphorisms et alia that I think are worth their own separate space.

See if you agree.

—————–

5/10/15 — Lately, I’ve been including a good bit of health and nutrition intel here, and I do see it intimately related to the other issues extant.

The posts on the duplicity and venality of food and medical corps provide obvious parallels, but I also want to focus on what we can do to improve our health, as we can’t follow our principles as assiduously as we’re obligated to if we’re not in the best condition we can be.

That said, I want to be clear that I’m no expert in these fields.  I’m trying to learn, and unlearn, what I need to do to be healthy.  In doing so, I may wander down some dead ends.  I present this information with the entreaty that you accord it both serious consideration and scrutiny.

What makes seeming sense today may be disproved tomorrow.  What appears outlandish in the present could well be validated in the future.

I hope what I pass along will be of benefit to you.

    1. Elton, I appreciate the props. Sometimes the synapses fire.

If you’re so inclined, check the SIGNS page at the blog for more, and see which ones you think might qualify as lucid.

Any feedback, here or via email, is welcome.

  1. Doug, I do, and always have, loved your writing. You help make sense of an insane world. You truly know the power of words. I first came across your writing in the comments section of the FAIR blog posts and those led me here. Thank you for all the time and effort you put in to help keep the rest of us sane. It is truly appreciated.

    1. Donald, when I wonder just what worth there is to what I do

Am I simply whizzing in the wind?

A response like this reminds me of just why I do it.

I don’t know diddley about how to “grow my site”, so it can be immensely frustrating to view its meager stats

But if you and a few other folks get something out of it, I reckon it is worth the effort

And knowing that help keeps me sane.

      Mucho appreciado, mi amigo

      La lucha continúa.

  2. Hi Doug… p.munkey from Disqus. I’ve had a change of heart concerning Sanders. Following a discussion with Arby on Disqus, I tracked down the following video:

“Bernie Sanders town hall gives US party line when confronted re: #gaza”, posted to YouTube by Joshua Thompson on August 17, 2014 [https://youtu.be/mBWD6Q8yWsQ]

I’ve heard Sanders before justify the need to combat the ISIS movement, but never before as a justification for beating up on Hamas and the Palestinians. The question posed by the audience member addressed the very discussion you and I were having concerning concerning Senate Resolution S.498.

I am now of the mind that Sanders will likely continue the decades old monolithic U.S. government policy towards Israel-Palestine. The U.S. has been calling for a two-state solution now for the better part of 60 years.

You also might enjoy the following video titled, “Video – Corruption is Legal in America” (05m:50s) [https://youtu.be/5tu32CCA_Ig], published to YouTube by the fine folks at https://represent.us/

The study cited in the video, titled, “Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens” by authors Martin Gilens and Benjamin I. Page, can be found in Princeton University’s archives at: http://scholar.princeton.edu/sites/default/files/mgilens/files/gilens_and_page_2014_-testing_theories_of_american_politics.doc.pdf

If you’re partial to the video, I would encourage you to share.

Thanks again for the talk. I’ve benefited immensely.

    1. p., I’m glad you got something from the exchange. I try to provide folks with info and insight that will help them in making up their own minds about the momentous matters at hand, and it’s gratifying to know that I was able to do so in this instance.

My view is that there is no “two-state solution” to the question of Palestine, if true justice is the aim, any more than the bantustans of apartheid South Africa were to that abomination, or “separate but equal” to the structural racism that infects the genetic material composing the US of A.

We can debate the odds of one state with equal rights for all becoming a reality, but intellectual and moral honesty compels us to accede to the notion that any other arrangement is perforce one bereft of what we would consider just were we the victims of ethnic cleansing and brutal occupation, don’t you think?

There has never been a “peace process”

Only a perverse pantomime of “diplomacy”.
